I super enjoyed The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner. @sarah_penner_author Lots of people told me to read it and that I'd love it and they were right! Like the main character, I always feel like I really belong in London. And there's a scene that's almost the same scene that I wrote in my novel The Story That Made Us Stronger (won't spoil either!)! How fun! I enjoyed the three POVs. We knew that their stories were coming together but not quite how. It worked well to create tension and make me want to keep reading. Nella is an apothecary living in London 200 years ago dolling out poisons to only women and has vowed to never poison a woman. Caroline is visiting London from Ohio (where I am from) after finding out her husband has cheated on her and finds a vial that we know is from Nella's shop but Caroline doesn't know that yet. It's a really twisty story, sad at places, exciting at places, overall well done. I agree with many reviewers saying that Caroline's story feels a bit unbelievable, too simple. She wasn't the strong woman that we want to see but she is moving to become that strong woman by the end. This week a year ago, I became a published author! But honestly it’s not my favorite reading chair. You need to pile up pillows on the sides to get really cozy. Like the book on it, The Thursday Murder Club, well loved but not my total favorite. The Thursday Murder Club is so popular and so many people rave about the series. I did very much enjoy the setting, the characters, and the mystery. But I was often really confused while reading. I think there were too many people, and frankly, too many graveyards. There was zero chance I could have picked the killer. The twists were great but perhaps too much. The Trending Topic Mysteries are a bit of an edgy cozy mystery series - a bit more sassy and I love them! Coco Cline is a well loved blogger and social media consultant. She lives in her hometown beach town where she keeps getting involved with murders whoops. I enjoyed #TagMe For Murder more than the first in series - and I loved the first one. I enjoy all the references to current events and celebrities. I had a bit of an idea about who the killer was but didn't have all the pieces put together at the end. Within this lovely mystery, Sarah brings to light some deeper topics such as mental health, sexual harassment, and racism. This story is really well done and I'll be here for every book in the series. Keep it up, Sarah! My puffin mug and I were featured on @mugshot_writers2 yesterday!! Tabby or Not Tabby is the second book in the Whiskers and Words Mystery series by @erynscottauthor and I liked it even better than the first! The main character finds a man dead in his home and at first it looks like suicide. Lou isn't so sure he did it. Plus, he's been a bully to nearly everyone in the little town of Button and so it seems like everyone is a suspect. The story also leads up to a beloved, long standing town festival (and the story I'm currently writing also has a festival so I paid extra special attention to how it was described!). The mystery was really well done and so many details came together at the end to add up perfectly. I did catch on to who the killer was which is super rare for me but I didn't really get the motive until the end. I highly recommend this book and the series so far! Well done, Eryn!
