I picked up this novel, How to Solve Your Own Murder by Kristen Perrin, on vacation back in April. I read it soon after and have recommended it to so many people in real life. I think it's my favorite book of 2024 so far! Quick synopsis: a young woman's fortune is read at a fair in the 1960s: She would one day be murdered. From there out, her life is changed and she is on the hunt for her own killer. Eventually, she is actually murdered in her old age. In her will, she left her vast estate to her niece, Annie, who is tasked with solving the murder. We're in the head of this niece and read a lot of the murdered woman's journal, Frances. The English country manor and surrounding village was just oh so charming. I loved being in Annie's head thinking through everything with her. The many challenges she faced and twists in the story were perfect. I had no idea whatsoever who the killer was in the end but was quite satisfied with how the book ended. I'm delighted to see that this is expected to be a series and will absolutely be reading more! Happy Summer! Have you had any beach/ lake days yet? I know I'm really late on this trend. I just love all my covers - they're so cute! I'm nearly done with the first draft of the second novel so there will be more to add soon! I did some traveling for work a few weeks ago and was on a plane for 3.5 hours each way. I read Stella Bixby's second book in her Shayla Murphy mystery series in one sitting! That is not normal for me! This one is centered around the horses that Shayla's fiance's family owns - you know, because they're a rich family in Ireland that owns and shows horses. And this time, Riley, Shayla's BFF is in town to visit. Riley is the main character in another one of Stella's series and it was fun to get to know her. Hooved Homicide was a really fun read with plenty of suspects and so much Irish charm. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series! Too bad I didn't take my own picture of the book on the plane. I haven't really done this before on this book-centric IG account - recommend something other than books. However, Death and Other Details is a delightful murder mystery show that my husband and I just loved so much, I couldn't not share! It's not "cozy" - plenty of sex and blood. But the mystery was just so well done! We had noooo idea! All episodes are available to stream now. We were waiting every week to see what happened next and it was maddening!
